COMPETITION

"The strongest clutch that combines ease of use with an allowable output of over 600ps" -
this was the development concept for the "SUPER COPPERMIX TWIN."
To realize this concept, we spent two years developing the carbon twin, but we confirmed that it was impossible to achieve performance that surpassed that of Copper Mix with a carbon facing that has low μ characteristics. We
then spent another year and a half developing twin plates using Copper Mix.
The Super Copper Mix Twin, completed after three and a half years of development, is the final model in the NISMO multi-plate clutch series.

A super-strong clutch that combines ease of operation with an output ceiling of more than 600ps ̶ this was the development concept that launched the SUPER COPPERMIX TWIN. NISMO first floated this concept as a carbon twin product. Two years into its development, we decided that the low μ of carbon facings could not match the performance that COPPERMIX promised. We spent the next year and a half developing twin discs using COPPERMIX. This makes the SUPER COPPERMIX TWIN the culmination of three and a half years of testing and development. It is the ultimate model in the NISMO multi-plate clutch series.

FEATURES

Allowable torque of 84kgf・m and ease of use

With a dynamic friction allowable torque of 84kgf・m
(static friction: 143kgf・m), it supports an estimated allowable output of 670ps!

This multi-plate clutch system takes the Coppermix's greatest appeal - its ease of use and high output - to an even higher level.

*These figures are our standard measurements taken with a push-type suspension mounted on an RB26DETT. All evaluations were carried out assuming street and circuit driving. Zero-to-60 test was not performed.

Center hub:
By using a center hub, there is more engagement between the clutch disc and the serrations on the T/M input shaft, which reduces the surface pressure on the serrations. This reduces input shaft galling and prevents poor disengagement. At the same time, it reduces the impact on the serrations when assembling the clutch and the misalignment of the two clutch discs, making T/M installation easier than with a single clutch.

Lightweight flywheel included
A specially designed lightweight chromoly flywheel is included, with the ideal weight set to ensure torque.

Aluminum cover usedA
dedicated aluminum cover with excellent heat dissipation properties is used.

Center plate with strap function:
To prevent any possible disconnection failure, the center plate has a strap function (Note 1) .

Note 1) This mechanism causes the pressure plate to move away from the disc due to the reaction force of the strap plate, and is used as original equipment on all production vehicles equipped with manual transmissions.

This multi-plate clutch system takes the “ease of use” and “high power handling” fortes of COPPERMIX to the next level.
・Numerical values are NISMO measurement values standardized using a pushtype clutch combined with an RB26DETT engine. Evaluations were based on street and circuit driving. No quarter-mile evaluation was made.

Center hub
Using a center hub increases the engagement surface between the clutch disc and the serrated section of the transmission's input shaft. This lowers the overall pressure on individual splines. It reduces wear to the input shaft and prevents disengagement problems. Having a center hub also makes installation easier than for single clutches by eliminating the risk of damaging the splines or misaligning the 2 discs during clutch assembly.

Lightweight Flywheel
The ideal weight for maximum torque was obtaine by using a lightweight flywheel manufactured from specially crafted chromemolybdenum high carbon steel.

Aluminum cover
The flywheel is provided with a special aluminum cover with exceptional heat-radiating properties.

Center plate with special dual-role strap functionality
The center plate is equipped with a strap function*1 that also prevents any problems with disengagement.
*1 This mechanism leverages the reaction force accumulated by the strap plate to cause the pressure plate to constantly move away from the disc. It is employed as a standard part in manual transmissions and is installed in all production vehicles.
